Brazil at the Olympics: A Little Bit of Protest!

Marina Silva

Environmental Activist

I was both surprised and delighted to see this  news…about the flag bearer for Brazil at the Olympics. The President of Brazil is angered by Marina Silva being chosen by the Olympic committee as one of the flag bearers for her country. You can see the group in this clip; here is a full head shot.

I wrote about Marina Silva once before and I did not know that  she would be a Brazilian flag bearer.  But this clip says it all, so my blog is short this week. The environment — like in the US — is in the hands of the politicians.

Thank God that there are still people protesting like Ms. Silva and that the Olympic committee honors those who believe in trying to save our air, water and environment.

I wish I had seen her in person but let’s hear it for all those who live in the Amazon, in Brazil and Latin America, and around the world,  to whom Ms. Silva gave a little hope and a smile. I think Dorothy is smiling!

I am so impressed with young women who are dedicated to a cause they believe in and persevere to make their issues known.

How timely to hear about Marina Silva when women’s rights seem to be eroding all over the globe.

Yes, I’m sure Dorothy approves.

I was thrilled to recognize her during the ceremony, though surprised. Did you miss it? I taped the whole thing if you want to see it.
